Gram-positive cocci, 0.7-1 μm in diameter, occurring in pairs or chains up 7-10 cells.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on blood agar are small, circular, and non-pigmented, 0.75-1.0 mm in
diameter and alpha-haemolytic at 37 ºC for 24 h. Facultatively anaerobic. Growth
occurs at 22, 30, 37 and 42 ºC but not at 4 or 15 ºC. Grows in the presence of 3.5 %
NaCl but not in broth containing 4.5% or 6.5% NaCl.
Isolated from the nasal sample and tonsils samples of wild rabbits. The full habitat range is not known.

Positive results for alpha- or beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase, esterase C4, acid phosphatase,
naphthol-AS-BI-phophohydrolase, glycyl-tryptophan arylamidase, pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, alanine-phenylalanine-proline
arylamidase, acid production from: N-acetylglucosamine, amygdalin, arbutin, aesculin, D-arabitol, cellobiose, D-fructose,
D-galactose, D-glucose, gentiobiose, inulin, lactose, maltose, mannose, D-mannitol, pullulan, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose, starch,
trehalose and turanose.
Negative for arginine hydrolysis, hippurate hydrolysis, catalase, urease, alpha-mannosidase, alpha-fucosidase, esterase lipase C8,
lipase C14, valine arylamidase, alpha-glucosidase, cystine arylamidase, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, beta-glucuronidase,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, alkaline phosphatase, beta-mannosidase, acid production from: L- or D-arabinose, D-adonitol,
L-arabitol, cyclodextrin, dulcitol, erythritol, D- or L-fucose, 2- or 5-ketogluconate, glycogen, methyl beta-D-glucopyranoside, glycerol,
inositol, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, D-lyxose, melibiose, melezitose (most strains),
raffinose, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, L-sorbose, tagatose, methyl eta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- or L-xylose.
