Gram-positive, straight rods. Not acid-fast. Capsule is not formed. Spores are not
produced. Non-motile at 4, 22, 30 or 37 ºC.
Colonies are opaque, white with a flat shape and entire margin on BHI and L.
monocytogenes
plating media (LMPM). On LMPM there is no blue halo. On Modified
Oxford agar (MOX) colonies are convex and pewter. Optimum growth temperature is
30-37 ºC, range 4-41 ºC. Hemolysis is not produced.
Facultatively anaerobic. Grows
well on BHI agar.
Isolated from a nonfood-contact surface in a dairy processing plant, in USA.
Undetermined.

Some characters were determined using API Listeria (numerical profiles 2330 & 2730)
and API 50 CHB/E kits.
