Gram-positive, straight rods. Non-motile at 25 ºC but motile at 37 ºC. Capsule is not
formed. Spores are not produced.
Colonies are opaque, yellow-pigmented (atypical of Listeria species), with a flat shape
and entire margin on BHI. On ALOA, colonies are blue without a white halo. On MOX,
colonies are convex and pewter-coloured. Growth occurs at 22-42 ºC, with optimal
growth at 30-37 ºC. Not haemolytic on  Columbia agar + 5% horse blood. CAMP test
is negatve. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a food processing drainage system in Costa Rica. Sensitive to penicillin G, ampicillin, amoxicillin, imipenem,
kanamycin, streptomycin, gentamicin, fosfomycin, rifampicin, erythromycin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, clindamycin, tetracycline,
chloramphenicol, sulphonamides, trimethoprim and vancomycin. Resistant to nalidixic acid and cefotaxime, and intermediate
resistance to ciprofloxacin and fusidic acid.
Not pathogenic.

erythritol, D-fucose, glucose-1-phosphate, glycogen, inositol, inulin, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, melezitose, melibiose, methyl beta-D-
xylopyranoside, potassium gluconate, potassium 2-ketogluconate, raffinose, D-sorbitol, L-sorbose, D-tagatose, turanose or L-xylose.
