Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Streptococcaceae, Genus Lactococcus, Lactococcus
termiticola Heo et al. 2019.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive, coccoid- or ovoid-shaped cells, 0.7-0.8 x 0.9-1.1 µm. Non-motile.
Colonies on MRS agar plates after 2 days of incubation at 28 ºC under aerobic
conditions are 0.1-0.2 mm in diameter, cream-coloured, circular, convex. Grows at
10-37 ºC (optimum, 28-30 ºC), but does not grow at 4 or 40 ºC. Grows at pH 6.5-9.0
(optimum, pH 7.0-8.0). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from the gut of larvae of Allomyrina dichotoma, Korea.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, aesculin hydrolysis, casein hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase,
naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase and Voges-Proskauer test.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, cystine arylamidase, DNase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8),
alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, H2S
production, hypoxanthine hydrolysis, indole production, lysine decarboxylase, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, ornithine decarboxylase, starch hydrolysis,Tween 80 hydrolysis, tryptophane deaminase, tyrosine
hydrolysis, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, urease, valine arylamidase and xanthine hydrolysis.
All tests are negative in API 20NE, API 32GN and API 50CHL strips.
