Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Enterobacteriales, Family Enterobacteriaceae,
Genus Enterobacter,
Enterobacter mori Zhu et al. 2011.

Synonym:
Enterobacter tabaci Duan et al. 2016.
Gram-negative rods, 0.3-1.0 x 0.8-2.0 µm, occuring singly or in pairs. Motile by
peritrichous flagella.
Colonies on nutrient agar are light yellow, smooth, circular, entire and convex. Growth
occurs at 4-45 ºC, pH 4.0-9.0 and with 0-9 % NaCl (w/v), with optimal at 25-37 ºC, pH
7.0 and without NaCl. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from diseased roots of white mulberry (Morus alba L.) and from the stem of a healthy  tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum L.) in
China.
Plant pathogen.

Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, ONPG, ornithine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction,
Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from L-arabinose, dulcitol, D-fructose, D-glucose, inositol, D-maltose, D-mannose, methyl
alpha-D-mannopyranoside, D-sucrose and D-trehalose.

E.tabaci strains using the API ZYM tests are positive for acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase
(C8), lipase (C14), trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase,
pyrolidonyl arylamidase, cystine arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase and valine arylamidase.

Negative results for methyl red test, phenylalanine, oxidase, and urease, acid production from potassium gluconate.

Variable results (
E. mori strains are positive while E. tabaci are negative) for gelatin hydrolysis, and lysine decarboxylase.
Variable results (
E. mori strains are negative while E. tabaci are positive) for H2S production and indole production.
