Gram-negative rods 1-2 x 4-5 µm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are translucent and bright. Growth occurs in the range of 0-15 % (w/v) NaCl
and at pH 5.0-10.0 in TSB. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a human rectal sample in Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Positive results for citrate utilization, H2S production, indole production, methyl red test , nitrate reduction to nitrite (no N2 production),
acid  production from: D- and L-arabinose, arbutin, cellobiose, D-fructose, L-fucose, D-galactose, D-glucose, gentiobiose, glycerol,
gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, lactose, melibiose, maltose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, methyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside,
N-acetylglucosamine, L-rhamnose, D-raffinose, D-ribose, D-sorbitol, L-sorbose, salicin,  sucrose, trehalose and D-xylose.
Utilize L-arginine and L-lysine are positive, but not L-tryptophan.

Negative results for catalase, gelatinase, oxidase, Voges-Proskauer test, urease, acid production from: amygdalin, D-adonitol, D- and
L-arabitol, dulcitol, esculin ferric citrate, erythritol, D-fucose, glycogen, inulin, inositol, D-lyxose, melezitose, methyl
beta-D-xylopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, starch, D-turanose, D-tagatose, xylitol and L-xylose.
