Gram-negative rods, 0.4-0.6 x 0.8-0.9 μm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are convex, opaque, circular, smooth, milky white and about 1.0 mm in
diameter after 24h incubation on BHI-sheep blood agar. Growth also occurs on
Columbia blood agar, MacConkey agar and BHI agar. Optimal growth occurs at 37 ºC
(range, 25-42 ºC), pH 7.5 (range, 5.0–9.0) and 2.0% NaCl
(range, 0-4.5%). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from faeces of Rattus norvegicus in Baisha, Hainan Province, Southern China.

Positive results (API ZYM) for acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), gelatinase, indole
production, leucine arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase.
Can utilize (API 20 NE): D-glucose and phenylacetic acid.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, cystine arylamidase, aesculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, nitrate
reduction, PNPG, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, urease, valine arylamidase and Voges-Proskauer test.
No utilization of: L-lactate, adipic acid, capric acid, maltose, D-mannitol, D-mannose, L-arabinose, L-tryptophan, malic acid, N-acetyl-
glucosamine, potassium gluconate, potassium nitrate and trisodium citrate.
Acid production from glucose is variable.
