Siebert et al. 2020.
Gram-positive cocci, 1-2 µm, occuring as single cells, in pairs or chains. Non-motile.
Non-spore-forming.
Show strong alpha-haemolysis on 5% sheep blood agar. The optimal growth
conditions are at 29-33 ºC, pH 7.5-8.0 and 0.5-1% (w/v) NaCl. Growth occurs at 12-39
ºC with one strain only growing up to 37 ºC. Strains grow at pH 6.5-9.5, some of them
are able to grow in the presence of up to 6.5% (w/v) NaCl. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from bulk tank milk in Germany. Possibly isolated from horse blood.
Undetermined.

Positive results for arginine dihdyrolase, alpha-galactosidase (weak), beta-galactosidase (only with resorufin beta-D-galactopyranoside
as substrate) and hydrolysis of hippurate.
Negative results for alanyl-phenylalanyl-proline-arylamidase, alkaline phosphatase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, gelatinase,
beta-glucuronidase, glycyl-tryptophanarylamidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, H2S production, indole production,
beta-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, oxidase, pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, starch hydrolysis, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid
production from any of the 47 carbohydrates tested with the API 50 CH system.
Contradictory results for alkaline phosphatase and acid production from: amygdalin, arbutin, D-fructose, D-glucose, inulin, D-mannose,
N-acetyl-glucosamine, maltose, D-ribose, starch, sucrose, trehalose, turanose and D-xylose.
Variable results for beta-glucosidase.
