Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Aerococcaceae, Genus Suicoccus, Suicoccus acidiformans
Li et al. 2019, type species of the genus.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.8 µm in diameter, occuring in pairs or irregular clusters.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
On Columbia agar supplemented with 5 % (v/v) horse serum after 72 h of incubation
in air, the colonies are 0.4-0.8 mm in diameter, semi-dry, semitransparent, circular,
raised and smooth. Growth occurs in NB and is facilitated by the addition of 5% (v/v)
horse serum. Optimal growth of the strain was observed at 37 ºC, pH 8.0 and 2%
NaCl (w/v) on Columbia agar. Growth is inhibited by 20% bile. Gamma-haemolysis is
visible on 5% (v/v) sheep blood agar and on Columbia blood agar with 5% (v/v) horse
blood. Can grow at 10-45 ºC and in 6.5% (w/v) NaCl. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from mesenteric lymph nodes of a sick piglet in Kunming, Yunnan Province, PR China.
Found in lymph nodes from diarrhoeaic piglet.
