Cells are non-sporulating, non-motile, Gram-positive cocci, grouped in short chains.
Alpha-haemolytic, small (0.3 - 0.8 mm in diameter) colonies after 48 hour incubation.
Growth at 37 °C. Facultatively anaerobic.
Grow on Trypticase soy agar with 5% sheep blood.
Isolated from human clinical samples  - oral cavity (tooth surface) & pharynx.
