(decompose hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water on blood-agar media)
Lancefield group D.
Gram-positive, elongated cocci, grouped in pairs, short chains or small groups.
Non-motile.
Colonies are circular and smooth with entire margins, 1 mm in diameter after 24 h of
cultivation and up to 3-4 mm after 5 days. A slightly yellowish pigment may be
produced. No hemolysis on sheep-blood agar.
Uniform turbidity produced in BHI broth culture at 37 °C.
Optimum temperature 37 °C, grow at 10 °C but not at 45°C. Facultatively anaerobic.
Growth enhanced slightly by cultivation in a 5% CO2 atmosphere. Grow in 6.5% NaCl.
Isolated from non-potable water.
Unknown.
