Lancefield group D.
Later synonym:
Streptococcus durans (ex Sherman and Wing 1937) Knight et al. 1984.
Gram positive, ovoid, elongated cells grouped in pairs or short chains. Non-motile.
Colonies on blood agar or nutrient agar are circular, smooth, and entire.
Non-pigmented. Alpha-, sometimes beta-hemolytic (on horse blood media).
Amino acids and B vitamins are required for growth in synthetic media. Grows on
0.1% methylene blue milk. No growth in media containing 0.04% tellurite and 0.01%
tetrazolium. Grow at 10 °C but not at 45 °C. Grow in the presence of  6.5% NaCl.
Isolated from milk, dairy products, meat products and contaminated water.
Unknown (none).
