Gram positive cocci, sometimes motile.
Carboxiphilic - prefers an increased CO2 content in atmosphere. No growth on
Slanetz–Bartley medium. Variable growth in 6.5% NaCl.
Grows on bile esculin agar in 3–10% CO
2 in air but not inthe normal atmosphere°C.
Isolated from the intestinal flora of domestic pigeons, rarely isolated from water.

Negative results for arginine dehydrolase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, beta-glucuronidase,
hippurate hydrolysis, acid production from: adonitol, L-sorbose, amygdalin, dulcitol, erythritol, fucose, gluconate, glycerol, inositol,
5-keto-gluconate, D-lyxose, alpha-methyl-d-mannoside & L-xylose.

Variable results for alkaline phosphatase, leucine arylamidase, beta-galactosidase, acid production from: D-arabitol, melezitose,
amygdalin, L-arabinose, L-arabitol, glycogen, 2-keto-gluconate, lactose, mannitol, rhamnose, sorbitol, starch, D-tagatose, D-turanose,
trehalose & xylitol.
