Historical synonyms: Streptococcus casseliflavus Vaughan et al. 1979, Streptococcus
faecium var. casseliflavus Mundt and Graham 1968.
According to Naser et al. 2006, Enterococcus flavescens Pompei et al. 1992 is a later
heterotypic synonym.
Gram positive coccoid cells grouped usually in pairs or short chains. Motile.
Colonies on blood agar or nutrient agar are circular, smooth, and entire. Carotenoid
yellow pigment produced. Gray, punctate colonies on agar supplemented with 0.04%
potassium tellurite.
Grow in 6.5% NaCl broth. Alpha-hemolytic on horse blood. Growth at pH 9.6 is
positive. Grow at 10 and 45 °C.
Isolated from plants, silage, soil, food & human & veterianry clinical materials (feces). Can survive heating at 60 °C for 30 min.
Unknown. Plant associated bacteria. Has been found to be a common inhabitant of the gut of garden snails.

arabinose, gluconate, inulin, melibiose, mannitol, sucrose, trehalose, N-acetylglucosamine, amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose,
D-fructose, galactose, beta-gentiobiose, D-glucose, lactose, maltose, D-mannose, ribose, salicin.& D-xylose. Acetylmethylcarbinol is
produced.
Negative results for hippurate hydrolysis, beta-glucuronidase, acid production from: adonitol, arabitol, dulcitol, glycerol, glycogen,
2-keto-gluconate, 5-keto-gluconate, D-arabinose, erythritol, D-fucose, L-fucose, inositol, alpha-methyl-xyloside, D-lyxose, melezitose,
alpha-methyl-D-glucoside, D-raffinose, sorbitol, L-sorbose, D-tagatose, xylitol & L-xylose.
Variable results for acid production from: alpha-methyl-D-mannoside, rhamnose & D-turanose.
