Gram positive cocci, 0.6–1.8 μm in diameter non-motile, non-sporing.
S-type colonies, yellowish or non-pigmented,  3–6 mm in dimaeterafter incubation for
2 days at 37 °C on brain heart infusion agar. Some strains are haemolytic. Aerobic
growth, temperature range 25-42 ºC. Can grow on Trypticase Soy Agar ± 5% sheep
blood, BHI agar.
Isolated from skin of squirrel, wild marsupials, raccoons, opossums, sheep, dogs & pigs (and from their ectoparasites - fleas).
Resistant to novobiocin & lysozyme. Sensible to lysostaphin.
Unknown; potential nosocomial infections.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, acid production from: trehalose,
mannitol, D-glucose, D-galactose, glycerol, ribose, melezitose, turanose (weak) &
fructose.

Negative results for nitrate reduction, oxidase, beta-glucosidase, hyaluronidase,
coagulase - rabbit plasma, clumping factor, fibrinolysin, deoxyribonuclease, heat-
stable nuclease, staphylokinase, Tween 80 hydrolysis, arginine dihydrolase, acid production from: amygdalin, arbutin, xylitol,
raffinose, xylose, sucrose, cellobiose, fucose, salicin & mannose.

Variable results for urease, acetoin production, acid production from lactose & arabinose.
