Genus Staphylococcus
Gram positive, spherical cells. 0.5-1.5 um in diameter occuring singly, in pairs or
forming irregular clusters (dividing in more than one plane). Metabolism
respiratory and fermentative, a wide range of carbohydrates can be utilized with
the acid production (lactic or acetic acid). Facultative anaerobes, non-motile,
catalase produced (most of them).
