Gram negative, motile by single polar flagellum, rods.
S-type, fluorescent colonies. Strictly aerobic, growth temperature 4 - 35 ºC (optimum
30 ºC). No growth at 41 ºC. Media: Nutritive agar, Trypticase Soy Agar, King’s B
medium. Can tolerate low salt concentrations up to 0.8%; higher concentrations ( 5
and 7%) inhibit growth.
Isolated from mineral waters.

Denitrification, lecithinase, catalase & oxidase are positive. Can utilize D-glucose,
D-fructose, D-galactose, D-trehalose, D-mannose, D-ribose, L-arabinose, D-xylose,
D-arabitol, glycerol, D-mannitol, D-saccharate, mucate, meso-tartrate, L-malate, cis-
aconitate, transaconitate, tricarballylate, citrate, D-glucuronate, D-galacturonate, N-
acetyl D-glucosamine, 2-keto-D-gluconate, D-gluconate, phenylacetate,
protocatechuate, p-hydroxybenzoate, quinate, betaine, benzoate, putrescine, DL-alpha-amino-n-butyrate, histamine, DL-lactate, caprate,
caprylate, succinate, fumarate, glutarate, DL-glycerate, ethanolamine, D-glucosamine, DL-beta-hydroxybutyrate, L-aspartate,
L-glutamate, Lproline, D-alanine, L-alanine, L-serine, malonate, propionate, L-tyrosine.
Indole, gelatin & starch liquefaction negative. The following compounds are not utilized: L-sorbose, D-melibiose, sucrose, D-raffinose,
maltotriose, maltose, a-lactose, lactulose, 1 -0-methyl P-galactopyranoside, 1 -O-methyl alpha-galactopyranoside, D-cellobiose,
beta-gentiobiose, 1- O-methylbeta-D-glucopyranoside, aesculin, palatinose, rhamnose, alpha-L-fucose, D-melezitose, L-arabitol,
xylitol, dulcitol, D-tagatose, myo-inositol, maltitol, D-turanose, D-sorbitol, adonitol, hydroxyquinoline beta-glucuronide, D-lyxose,
rneso-erythritol, 1 -0-methylalpha-D-glucopyranoside, 3-0-methyl D-glucopyranose, L-tartrate, 5-keto-gluconate, L-tryptophan, gentisate,
