Species "Incertae Sedis“; the species was excluded from the genus Pasteurella by DNA-DNA hybridization (Mutters et al., 1985a) and
16S rRNA hybridization (De Ley et al., 1990).
Coccobacillary, Gram negative cells.
Colonies are non-hemolytic and V-factor independent.
Growth on MacConkey is positive.
Original isolates obtained from pigs feces.  Occasionally isolated from rabbits and Guinea pigs.
Few cases of human infections were cited (most important from Guinea pig bites).

L(+) arabinose, D(+)xylose, D(+) galactose, D(+) glucose acid, D(+) glucose gas, D(+)
mannose maltose & sucrose (saccharose) = positive.

Alkaline phosphatase, gelatinase, Voges-Proskauer, arginine dehydrolase, lysine
decarboxylase, indole, dulcitol, meso-inositol, mannitol, D(-) sorbitol, cellobiose,
trehalose, lactose, esculin & salicin = negative.

L(+) rhamnose, ONPG, D(+) melibiose & raffinose = variable.
