Old synonym:

Gram-positive round to ovoid cells, grouped mostly in pairs or short chains. Nonmotie.
Endospores are not formed.
Colonies on blood agar or nutrient agar are nonpigmented, circular, smooth, and
entire. No beta-hemolysis. Grows at 10 ºC, not at 40 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic. Does
not grow in 0.1% methylene blue milk or in 4% NaCl medium.
Isolated from raw milk in farms, and from waste water, soil and grass in cheese plant.
Undetermined.

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, alpha-galactosidase, leucine arylamidase, acid
production from: arbutin, D-fructose, galactose, glucose, lactose, maltose, D-mannose,
melibiose, N-acetyglucosamine, raffinose, salicin, starch, sucrose, trehalose & D-xylose (most strains).

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dehydrolase (most strains), casein hydrolysis, catalase, gelatin hydrolysis,
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, hippurate hydrolysis, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, acid production from: adonitol, arabitol,
D-arabinose, dulcitol, erythritol, D-fucose, gluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, 2-ketogluconate, D-lyxose, alpha-methyl-D-
mannoside, beta-methylxyloside, rhamnose, sorbitol, D-tagatose, L-xylose & xylitol.

Variable results for acid production from: amygdalin, L-arabinose, dextrin, beta-gentiobiose, inulin, mannitol, melezitose,
alpha-methyl-D-glucoside, ribose, L-sorbose & turanose.
