Gram-positive cocci, single cells or grouped in pairs, or short chains. Cells are
elongated in the direction of the chain, and some are giving the appearance of short,
fat rods. Non-motile.
Does not produce haemolysis. No growth at 10 ºC or 45 ºC is variable. No growth in
6.5% NaCl broth. Facultatively anaerobic. Lactic acid without gas is produced from
glucose metabolism.
Isolated from a swine-manure storage pit. The natural habitat is unknown.

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, esterase C4 (weak), esterase lipase C8 (weak), alpha-galactosidase (negative in API ZYM),
beta-glucosidase (weak reaction in API ID32, negative in API ZYM), glycyl tryptophan arylamidase
acid production from: D-arabinose, cellobiose, D-fructose, glucose, glycerol & inositol.

Negative results for N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, acid and alkaline phosphatase (weak positive in API ZYM), alanyl phenylalanine
proline arylamidase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase, alpha-chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, alpha-fucosidase, hippurate
hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, beta-glucuronidase, beta-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase, lipase (C14), leucine arylamidase,
alpha-mannosidase, nitrates reduction, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, N-acetyl beta-glucosaminidase, pyroglutamic acid
arylamidase, trypsin, urease, valine arylamidase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: amygdalin, D-arabitol, L-arabinose,
arbutin, cyclodextrin, dulcitol, erythritol, glycogen, D-galactose, inulin, lactose, maltose, mannitol (positive in Wang's study), melibiose,
