Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Bacillales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus wakoensis Nogi, Takami and
Horikoshi 2005. Description is based upon a single isolate.
Gram-positive, motile (peritrichous flagella)  rods, 0.5-0.8 / 1.5-2.0 µm, producing
terminal, ellipsoidal endospores in  swollen sporangia.
Colonies are yellowish. Aerobic growth. Alkaliphilic, pH range 8-10 (optimum 9).
Growth temperature 10-40 ºC (optimum 37 ºC). Halotolerant, grows in 0-10% NaCl.
Utilized in biotechnology for cellulase production.
